-The Bhutanese Rapper-

今ブータンで多くの若者たちから絶大な支持を集めているラッパーがいる。

ケザン・ドルジ、民族衣装を身にまとい、自国の言葉で綴られたラップを発信している。保守的な仏教国だったブータンでは近年その変容ぶりが著しい。若者たちの仏教に対する信仰心は徐々に薄れ、お坊さんの説法よりもSNS や動画配信サイトでシェアされる海外の情報や文化が彼らの一大関心事になっている。

そんな現代ブータンの若者たちからケザンは共感をえている。東ブータンの貧しい家で育った彼は言葉の力でチャンスを掴んできた。彼のリリックは、シンプルで、飾らず、等身大のメッセージが綴られている。一貫して伝えているのは自分たち、そして全ての若者たちがもつ可能性。誰もがわかるブータンの言葉で、自分たちのアイデンティティを肯定し、迷いや無力感から自分を見失っている者に光をあてている。その姿は現代ブータンに出現した新しい「菩薩」なのかもしれない。

この展示は、ブータンで今まさに起きようとしている新しい時代の１ページを表現したものだ。

Rap Sattva

-The Bhutanese Rapper-

Here, there is a rapper who has gathered tremendous popularity amongst young people in Bhutan.
Kezang Dorji, wearing Bhutanese national dress, is expressing Rap in Dzongkha, the language of Bhutan. The Buddhist country Bhutan has changed remarkably in recent years. Young people’ s faith in Buddhism is gradually diminishing, as overseas information and

culture that is shared by SNS and video distribution sites is a major influence on them, rather than the monk's teachings.

Kezang Dorji is empathetic of such young people of modern Bhutan. He grew up in a poor neighborhood in East Bhutan and grabbed his opportunity with the power of words. In his lyrics, a simple yet strong message is expressed. What he has been telling is about the possibilities of all young people. He affirms their identity with simple Bhutanese words and encourages those who have lost sight of himself with helplessness. His behavior may be a new "bodhisattva" that appeared in modern Bhutan.

This exhibit represents the turn of a new leaf, a new era that is about to happen right at this point in time in Bhutan.
